Way back in the ‘50’s I was a keen supporter of ‘Town’, I lived in Rawthorpe at the time so going down to Leeds Road (as we called it then), behind the goals at the Kilner Bank End was our Saturday home game place.
Those days, Jimmy Glazzard was centre forward and Vic Metcalf was left wing.
I was wondering if Mr Hoyle was the grandson of Sir Emmanuel Hoyle whose mills were in Longwood (Joseph Hoyles) and Quarmby Clough.
My dad had a team of horses pulling bales of wool around and I started work at Quarmby Clough as an office boy. I left England in 1957, it sure has changed there when I read the Examiner, by the way, I am now 91 years young.
Good luck for the season, I shall be watching.
Bye,
Cedric E Billington.
