Michael Greig: 1979, my first match and other memories

I have far too many memories of my beloved HTAFC but here is a few that springs to mind!

My first game vs Wigan, 9 October ’79, town 4-0 winners goals from Brian Stanton, Peter Fletcher 2, and David Cowling (who went on to score in many memorable games for me).

7th February ’81 vs Barnsley home in front of the Match of the Day cameras a crowd of 28,901 watched as Cowling scored the only goal firing towards the Cowshed.

10th November ’82 L...s away Milk Cup 1-0 win, singing in the rain! Who scored? That man Cowling again! 7th May ’83 Town 1 Newport 0 Cowling again this time securing promotion with a shot from outside the box with the outside of his left boot into the bottom corner sending the cowshed wild!

7th November ’87 Man City 10 HTAFC 1, our lowest point in modern times!

12th October ’91 Torquay away 1-0 win, Gary Barnett fired in towards the 2000 town fans massed behind the goal!

Many more memories including obviously the play off campaigns, both winning and losing, cup runs, promotions, relegations, sackings (some good, some bad) but nothing really can beat Alex Smithies penalty at Wembley (perhaps Bullock at Brentford).

This memory was shared as part of the Huddersfield Town v Derby County npower Championship match on 15th September. The Football Memories match raising awareness of dementia.http://www.htafc.com/news/article/club-news-dementia-match-364516.aspx
