John York: Remembering Thelma, my wife

My wife died in 2003, we had both been season ticket holders for 40 plus years. I talked to Michael Coleman the stadium manager about some form of commemoration. Michael recalled that at his previous club (Chelsea) there had been a 'memorial wall' and suggested that I get a plaque made in my wife's memory and he would see what he could do.

As it turns out my wife's plaque became the first to appear on the Portsmouth FC Memorial Wall situated behind the Fratton End.

The plaque reads : THELMA YORK, 18.1.35 to 17.7.03. LOYAL SUPPORTER FOR OVER 50 YEARS. IF YOU LISTEN ON THE WIND YOU WILL HEAR HER CRY PLAY UP POMPEY, POMPEY PLAY UP!
