Steve Richards: Peter Beardsley

My deepest memories surrounding watching NUFC are around Peter Beardsley. In 1987 he left, he played a huge role in saving us when we went on a brilliant run after staring relegation in the face - as a 9 year old I couldn't hold back the tears when he went to Liverpool later that year. When he came back he was my hero, so much so I think if I had a gun I'd have shot Neil Ruddock who cruelly ruined his cheekbone in a friendly, but seriously Peter is and was the greatest player I've ever witnessed. I can't stand Ashley, I can't stand Ashley supporters but Peter was so good back then, so modest and so incredibly gifted, I almost forgive him.
