My favourite Boro memory?
First night match on my own at Ayresome Park. Boro v Leicester and the bloody flood lights went out. Typical Charlie Amer not paying the 'leccy bill!
Kevin Neal
Charles Amer was Chairman between ***** "But Mr Amer’s rein was also shrouded in controversy, with the sale of star players and the decision to use his own company to build a sports hall at Ayresome Park in 1979, seen by many as the start of Boro’s fall from First to Third Division and liquidation. That was a view Mr Amer always opposed, labelling it “pure fantasy”....In his 1998 autobiography Just For The Record, he admitted: “Unfortunately for me, it appears the name of Charles Amer will forever be synonymous with the financial demise of Middlesbrough FC, because I was a convenient and high profile scapegoat.” From the Evening Gazette, 25th February 2012.
