Villa won this second leg 2-1 and the semi-final 2-1 on aggregate, but lost the Final 2-0 to Spurs
Brian is one of the greatest players to play for Aston Villa, or any other club for that matter! He made his debut for Villa in 1971 at the age of seventeen having progressed through the youth ranks, winning the FA Youth Cup in 1972. During a playing career spent entirely at Villa he helped the club achieve two promotions from Division 3 to Division 1 and won two League Cup medals as well as being capped for England. Brian made 301 appearances for Villa, scoring 82 goals before his career was cruelly ended by a knee injury at the age of 26 in 1980.
In 1989 Brian was appointed manager of Darlington guiding them to the GM Vauxhall Conference title and the Division 4 title the following year before moving on to Leicester City in 1991. Having lead Leicester to promotion to the Premiership in 1994 he was appointed Aston Villa manager. During his time at Villa they finished fourth in the Premiership, won the Coca Cola Cup, reached the FA Cup Semi Final and qualified for the UEFA Cup. He left Villa in 1998 and went on to manage Stoke City, Hull City, Tranmere Rovers, WBA, Wrexham and Gainsborough Trinity.
In 2007 Brian was named as one of the 12 founder members of the Aston Villa Hall of Fame

Went to both games. Great memories. To see Law, Best and Charlton and for Villa to beat them was wonderful. Used to love watching Willie Anderson and Andy Lochhead. It was the start of Villa's rise to becoming European Champions. UTV.
