Peter Whitney: 2000 and 2005, three F.A. Cup memories

The Magic of the FA Cup

31st January 2000. A fantastic away game in wet Blackburn. FA Cup 5th round and we took 7-8000 away fans packed into the two tiers of the Darwen End . The score was 2-1 to us ,after Shearer 's first at the other end he created a Bolt-like celebration ,archer style . Greatest memory is of Shearer's second in front of the Toon army. We went mental and I remember being picked up and thrown several rows forwards.

9th April 2000. FA Cup Semi final Wembley Forget the final score and two goals for Chelsea by the now manager of a nearby team , south of the Tyne.
I'll never forget Sir Bobby proudly marching out his team from the famous tunnel end, Gary Speed in midfield , Rob Lee's header and the echo of the Newcastle fans singing 'Toonarmy Toonarmy ' in Kings Cross after arriving.

17th April 2005 FA Cup Semi Final Cardiff. Again forget the score This was about crossing the Severn Bridge in cars covered in Black and White and seeing the masses of fans in front of Cardiff castle some playing football in the castle grounds. At least the roads north were quiet post match as the Man U fans headed for London and Heathrow!

We can only dream of a repeat of the scenes of the 50's in the centre of Newcastle . We have to get past the third round first .

We are supporting the project by helping to collect NUFC memories online - fans can share their memories on the Replay Football website, simply select the Toon Times tag when submitting yours.
