John Carver: being caretaker Manager, most of my time has been here

Best Memory

Nine years to this day (September 11th) I was caretaker manager against Blackburn and we won 3-0. They’d just fired Sir Bob and Graeme Souness was coming in but he wasn’t allowed to take part in the game so I took control of the game and it was, so far in football, probably my proudest and most memorable day.

Memories before he joined the club

Well, it’s really strange because, as a fourteen year old school boy I actually signed for the club as a school boy so from the age of fourteen to twenty I spent most of my youth here before I left to go to Cardiff and came back as a coach because I had to finish through injury so I came back as a coach at 28 so I’ve spent most of my time, really at this football club. I mean I have had stints in America, in the MLS with the Canadian team Toronto, I’ve been at Leeds United, I’ve been with Gary Speed when he was manager at Sheffield United so I’ve been around but most of my time has been spent at this Football club.

Toon Times will culminate with a major Newcastle United exhibition at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle, although in the lead up to this event Toon Times wishes to reach out to all Newcastle United fans across the North East and further afield to get involved and share their memories, experiences, photos and memorabilia what people have collected over the years.

We are supporting the project by helping to collect NUFC memories online - fans can share their memories on the Replay Football website, simply select the Toon Times tag when submitting yours.
