Mick Daglish: 1990, my first match when I felt it mattered

My dad had taken me to my first game in 1985, and after that I went to a few games a season, I liked Newcastle but never loved the club the way I do now until a certain game against Leicester City in the 1989/90 season.

I was 12 at the time and I remember Newcastle being 4 - 2 down with 15 minutes to go, we pulled it back and within the last minute Mark McGhee scored the winner to make it Newcastle 5 Leicester City 4. The atmosphere and the feeling of elation I felt when Mark McGhee scored I had never experienced in my previous trips to St James' Park.

For me it was also the travelling home after the game on the Metro with my Dad, the buzz on there was electric, the metro was far too full, with everyone squeezing on to get home. But that added to the atmosphere, the whole metro was on a high with people singing and laughing and saying they couldn't believe what they had just seen. It was then that I fell in love with Newcastle United and still follow them to this day. I have 2 sons and look forward to taking them to many games in the future.
