Town needed to win to clinch the championship. Glancing up at the Barrett Stand there were about a dozen lads sat on the roof of the stand. We went on to win 3-0.

In 1971 Lawrie McMenemy was appointed manager of Grimsby Town. A crowd of 22,489 saw them beat Exeter 3-0 to clinch promotion from the fourth division.
