Lance Bradley: 1997/1998 Champions League

I was living in London when we first played in the Champions League, but got tickets for the game v Barcelona. I got time off that afternoon and drove up.

I still remember all the chat around the ground being the hope that we didn't get beat by too many - it was Barca, after all.

To this day I have no idea why, but I put a small bet not only on us winning, but on Tino getting a hat-trick and us winning 3-2.

And then he got his hat-trick. And then they got one back. And the noise in SJP was so loud that you couldn't actually hear it, it was just a huge noise.

And I looked around the stadium and thought to myself "There are 52,000 people in here tonight, and I'm the only one who doesn't mind if they score again."

And they did. But that was all, and we beat the mighty Barcelona. And I got my petrol money back from Ladbrokes.

What a night.

Lance Bradley
