Alan Shearer: 1996 debut and 2006, breaking the record

Best Moment in a Black and White Shirt by Newcastle United Record Goal Scorer, Alan Shearer….

‘Well, it would have to be my first time running out in a Newcastle shirt or probably the time I broke the record that year. The atmosphere after scoring my 201st goal against Portsmouth, was incredible, something that I’ll never forget.’

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer made his debut for Newcastle in a pre-season match at Lincoln City, and in a competitive match, at Everton. He became the club's highest ever scorer when he scored against Portsmouth in 2006.

Speaking before Steve Harper’s Charity Match (11th September 2013) Alan Shearer shared some Newcastle United memories with Newcastle United Foundation’s Toon Times Heritage Project. The match itself was attended by over 50,000 fans and raised funds for Newcastle United Foundation, Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Great North Children’s Hospital.

Newcastle United Foundation have a heritage project for fans of all ages called Toon Times.

Toon Times will culminate with a major Newcastle United exhibition at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle, although in the lead up to this event Toon Times wishes to reach out to all Newcastle United fans across the North East and further afield to get involved and share their memories, experiences, photos and memorabilia what people have collected over the years.

We are supporting the project by helping to collect NUFC memories online - fans can share their memories on the Replay Football website, simply select the Toon Times tag when submitting yours.
