Marc Donkin: 1998 F.A. Cup Semi-final - Stuart Pearce

To set the scene it was at Old Trafford on 5 April 98 when the Toon played Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi final. I remember going to the match with my dad as I was 12 years old making the trip to Manchester full of hope and dreams! After watching my beloved Team come close to the Premiership title a couple of years before and all the exciting football we played under King Kev I was one of those fans thinking this has got to be our year!

Although the atmosphere was electric and we won 1 nil (thanks to Shearer), I was lucky enough to be presented with Stuart Pearce's shirt after the match! I remember Stuart Pearce going mental after the game then running over to the fans where by he jumped into the crowd and gave me his shirt!

Stuart Pearce was my Toon hero with his no nonsense tackling and passion for the game! I was buzzing that he handed me his shirt!
