Bob Smith: 1969 Fairs Cup

I took my son to see the toon play Victoria Setubal in the Fairs Cup tie, during the first half it started to snow and my son was on my shoulders so he so he could see the match. At half time I took him down off my shoulders, and nearly passed out as he was covered in snow and looked like a little snow man. he was so wet and cold that I had to take him home I missed the second half.

He said he was shouting for me to take him down, but I was to engrossed in the game and I couldn't hear him for the noise!

We still have a good laugh when we recall this incident

Bob Smith

Newcastle led 2-0 at half time before second half goals from Pop Robson, Wyn Davies and Tommy Gibb gave them a 5-1 win in this, the home leg of the tie.

We are supporting the project by helping to collect NUFC memories online - fans can share their memories on the Replay Football website, simply select the Toon Times tag when submitting yours.
