As a 56 year old local lad and a season ticket holder I have many memories although a meeting with Peter Beardsley has to be one of my favourites.
In 2006 we were living and working in Russia and my daughter Rebecca needed more surgery for an ongoing medical condition but this time it was on both her feet. The operation took place at Freeman Hospital and somehow NUFC heard of her situation. I received a phone call from St. James' hospitality team inviting her to the training ground and to a home match after she had left hospital. She was in a wheelchair as both legs had plaster casts on but that didn't deter the hospitality at NUFC. I took her to the training ground where she watched the players train and was also given the opportunity to speak to them and have photographs taken. The following day we attended a home game and before the match she (we!!!) were taken pitch side where we were introduced to Peter Beardsley and some first team players as they arrived at the ground.
Rebecca had a fabulous time and was extremely grateful for the gesture and experience given by the club. I also had a GREAT time (may have been better that Rebecca!!!) and appreciated exactly what the NUFC team does for the local community. We both have terrific memories of the 2 days and it still remains a huge talking point within the family and friends.
