Irvine Welsh: Alan Gordon goal

As a kid I was taken to a Hearts game at Tynecastle. They were playing Raith Rovers at home. It was freezing cold. In particular, my feet were freezing. Alan Gordon, playing in a brief second spell for Hearts, bent down to tie his bootlace. The Raith keeper, who I think was Murray McDermott, took a goal kick which bounced off the top of Alan's head and went towards the goal. The keeper slipped on the icy pitch trying to clear it and the ball went into the net. That was the only goal of the game.

I used to go to Tynecastle and Easter Road with family as a small boy but wasn't properly into football. I think that made me a Hibs fan. Alan Gordon would go on to to be one of my heroes at Hibs and later on, my accountant and a close friend till his untimely passing a couple of years ago
