Robert Haldane: the European nights of the early 70s

My greatest memories are of European nights, walking from Junction Street along Manderson Street, Easter Road up St Clair Street, then the massive floodlights.

Get my programme and watch great sides from the early seventies. Then walking home, getting my chips and reading my programme in bed; can't wait to tell my mates about the game.

Hibs qualified for the 1972/1973 European Cup Winners Cup and beat Sporting Lisbon before going out to Hadjuk Split. A number of UEFA Cup campaigns then followed, which included some notable matches:

1973/1974 - two goalless draws with Leeds United before going out on penalties

1974/1975 - a 9-1 home win over Rosenborg of Norway before going out to Juventus

1975/1976 - a 1-0 win in the home leg over Liverpool before going out on aggregate, this home win being Liverpool's only defeat on their way to winning the trophy
