On 8th April 1990, Crystal Palace met Liverpool at Villa Park in the semi final of the FA Cup. In a remarkable game Palace were trailing 3-2 in the final minute when Andy Gray equalised to take the game into extra time. In the second period of extra time headed the winner in front of the Holte End to send Palace to their first ever FA Cup final appearance.
Alan was the assistant manager at Crystal Palace when Steve Coppell was the manager, he was appointed Palace manager in 1993 and they won the Division One title in 1993/94.
