Tony Vidmar: Australia v. Uruguay

On 16th November 2005 Australia played Uruguay in Sydney in the 2nd leg of the Inter Zone Qualifiers for the Germany 2006 World Cup. The first leg ended with a 1-0 victory for Uruguay and in front of 90,000 home supporters Australia won the return 1-0. There were no further goals in extra time and it went to a penalty shootout, Tony scored his to put Australia 3-1 up and they sealed victory by 4-2 to qualify for only their second ever World Cup.

Tony made 76 starts for Australia and during his career played for Adelaide City, NAC Breda, Glasgow Rangers, Middlesbrough and Cardiff City before ending his career at Central Coast Mariners.
