QPR won 1-0 against West Brom at Highbury thanks to a Clive Allen goal. Rangers faced Spurs in the final and drew 1-1 before losing the replay 1-0.
Gavin made 40 league appearances for QPR after signing for the club in 1984 before moving to Portsmouth
