Cedric De Cooman: Euro 2016, Belgium v. Wales

For many Belgians, the Euros will bring back sour memories.

We are not a country that is always present at every big tournament. Having a good team is a rarity. The days of the 1980s, where we had a talented generation.

Since the World Cup of 2014 our country has been blessed with a talented generation. A golden generation if you like. The European Championship of 2016 was the place where we had to make things happen.

After going through in the group stages we went clear to the quarter final, playing Wales. Not a single Belgian expected anything less but a victory. After a stunning strike from Radja Naingolan the whole country was in ecstasy. Unfortunately it didn't last long. After a Robson-Kanu masterclass Belgium left our Euros dream defeated and demoralised. But you can be certain the whole country wants to amend that in Euro 2020.
